Introduction

In December 2018, Microsoft announced their intention to adopt the Chromium open source project in the development of Microsoft Edge of the desktop.

This change was intended to create better web compatibility for users, and less fragmentation of the web for all developers. The Microsoft Edge Insider provides Microsoft Edge preview builds which are ready for users to try.

Microsoft began making contributions back to Chromium in areas like accessibility, touch, ARM64 and others. Their plan is to continue working working directly with the teams at Google and in Chromium rather than creating a parallel project.Teams from Microsoft and Google have been working together to improve the underlying Chromium project so that Chrome and Edge run better on Windows. .
